I echo each of these sentiments:

I feel pretty comfortable saying I had no confidence that this would work out in the Dodgers favor, and while I agree that it was worth a shot to see if Schmidt had anything left to offer before cutting ties, it makes no sense to drag this on.

The BP fastballs, and the 4 MPH difference between that and his changeup have not been enough to get big leaguers out effectively without a heavy dose of luck.

This won't be his last start,

but it's not a decision that's being made with the team's best interests at heart, and more based on Joe's gut feeling and the respect he has for a man who worked hard to come back.

You can still respect someone and simultaneously reduce their role on the team. For our sake I hope this decision is made soon.
