I seriously hope this article was written with tongue firmly placed in cheek as it continues to push the old myth of the “ace deadline trade=automatic World Series contender”. It’s been beaten into the ground for about a month now, and we’ve all seen the results.

Is it because it gets people riled up? Or is it because the casual fan actually buys into it? I’ve yet to encounter anyone with the balls to suggest we trade Kershaw (other than the random 12 year-old on the dodgers.com message boards), and yet here’s a grown-ass man writing this:

“Clayton Kershaw, thanks for all the weeks you've put in as a member of the Dodgers. We admire your tiresome efforts to get past the sixth inning start after start after start. We appreciate the fact you've not used any of the shaving cream we've provided in the team shower facility”.
Now, I’m usually not one to judge, but this dude is a dick.
“Since when did Kershaw's potential become the equivalent to a hostage situation and keep the major-league leading Dodgers from an even clearer path to the NL postseason and beyond?”
Is he really asking this question? I’m fairly positive it’s rhetorical.
“Someday, sure, he might throw a complete-game shutout, strike out 15 and walk just eight. But for now, he's unremarkably become the No. 2 bullet in an L.A. five-shooter that lacks anything to put fear into a playoff opponent. And don't even get us started on the bullpen.”
Alright, that’s it. I’m convinced this was written as joke after a few too many raspberry Smirnoffs. And who’s this “us” he keeps referring to? It’s probably just Farney as he’d be hard-pressed to find anyone with a rational neuron in their brain that agrees with him.

That “win now” mentality will get us nowhere, but since a rational column doesn’t get that much attention, the obvious alternative was a ridiculous trade suggestion shitting on the work of a 21 year-old lefty who’s come a long way. Good job Tom Hoffarth, you sound like a big bag of mashed up asshole.
